Frequently Asked Questions

How is JL Accounting different from other accountancy firms?

We provide plain English advice to you so you are able to completely understand your accounts and income tax position. Our accounting services are provided with fast turnarounds so you are not left waiting for your financial results. We are friendly and approachable – no need to feel like you’re going to have teeth pulled!

How do you change to JL Accounting?

Once you have given JL Accounting the go-ahead, and signed an “Authority to Act” form, we will contact your prior accountant to get them to forward any relevant records and working papers.

We will “link” you up with Inland Revenue so that they know JL Accounting are acting on your behalf and are able to access your IRD information.

What records do I provide?

You will be asked to complete an “End of Year Information Request Questionnaire” to assist you in collating your records. This questionnaire covers all aspects that may relate to your business (where sections don’t apply, just mark “N/A”).

There is a list of all source records your accountant needs. Once collated, email, courier or post to us.

If you need a hand running through this questionnaire do not hesitate to contact JL Accounting. We appreciate that sometimes there can be a lot of information to collect, and sometime people just hate forms!

How often will I hear from JL Accounting?

JL Accounting have clients who want regular contact to discuss their business performance and/or tax planning, and others we touch base with annually. From the outset we discuss your requirements and preferences. We will work in with your wishes and needs.

Quarterly newsletters are emailed. Tax payment slips are emailed 2-3 weeks prior to any due dates (always remember to mark your diary for your tax payments!)

On 31st March each year an “End of Year Information Request Questionnaire” form is sent out to assist you in collating your records.

How will I be charged for your services?

You will be charged fees through a timesheet system, and we send out our invoices upon completion of your job. This means that you are charged for the time it takes to complete your job. Therefore, the easier it is to read and understand the information that you provide, the quicker the requested service will be performed.

JL Accounting can provide a fee quote prior to commencement of any work to be carried out. Just ask.

What our clients say

  • ... an absolute pleasure to deal with ...

We have worked with Shelley and JL Accounting for 12 years and with our 2 businesses, family trust and various projects always on the go, we are not straight forward clients, with ever changing needs.
Shelley is an absolute pleasure to deal with always, nothing is ever a problem and her professionalism, positive attitude and proactive approach is a package we had never experienced in an accountant before.

I have recommended Shelley to many people over the years as I believe having a great relationship with your accountant is essential and a referral is the greatest compliment you can give a business. If you do want the best accountant and service surrounding all things accounting then don’t hesitate in making contact.
